The midiratio method will help with this:

0.midiratio -> 1

12.midiratio -> 2

-12.midiratio -> 0.5

-7.midiratio -> 0.6674199270861 // down a perfect 5th … 7 semitones

7.midiratio -> 1.4983070768743 // up a perfect 5th … 7 semitones
