I have noticed dropped udp messages between sclang and TouchOSC going
through a wifi router (using 192.168.xxx.yyy addresses, not the real
internet). I have a mobile performance interface that syncs the mobile
display when the state changes in sclang, and I have definitely seen plenty
of times where TouchOSC was supposed to set a fader position but it didn't
get the message. It happened often enough that, by now, I use USB tethering
for performances if at all possible, rather than wifi.
This was even in my home studio with low network traffic at the time.
Someone else had raised a concern about udp packets being dropped or
reordered even within the local machine. While theoretically possible (in
that udp does nothing to prevent it), I have never seen even a single case
of this on my own machines, and I've been using SC for 14 years. Local comms
by udp are fine.
