No worries, I was mistaken before when I thought extensions was no longer included.

Thanks Alberto and Chris,
all more clear now !
though I havn't gone through all 3.7 quarks possibilities
(still on 3.6.6 and 3.6.5 as working horses)
this sounds promising and reasonable.
I will have to check out additional install procedures
to see how to cope with extensions in future -
and as long as 'Extensions' is not suddenly disbled by default
I'm open to be convinced by alternative and more practical
solutions.
