Thanks guys. Very helpful. I'm clear on compression effects, the high energy of oscillator waveforms, etc. Just wanted a reality check on the audio server.

Take a look at the waveform of most rock recordings these days... compressed to hell and normalized to 0. But yes, the BIG difference there is how we perceive steady state sin tones versus drums and distorted guitar.
