I have to say that I'm getting very critic about the idea of software-related forums. People chime in when they have troubles, expect a "synchronous" reply, eventually complain if this comes later, and then disappear.

Right and when they do get an answer, they don't post again for weeks (no thank-you, no "cool, that worked") -- you don't hear from them until they have another problem.

Less of an issue here on the mailing list but I've seen that behavior at electro-music.com sometimes :)
