[sc-users] [windows] syntax colorize "auto"?

Hi, On the shortcuts help the indication for syntax colorise in XP is  
"auto", but sometimes when I change the code it goes back to black,  
and I cannot find the way to changing it back to syntax colours.
What does "auto" means? should it be authomatic?
