uh huh - exactly the point of my reply.
I still miss the times when ./configure used to build a tiny test bin
and really prove for a lib capabilities.

what I mean is - as long an install can get compromised, say /usr (a
distro pack) and /usr/local (most prolly user doings) point to difft
packages, scons (via its build script) has no way to tell which one it
will be using and linking to (unless we really do a test) - which lib
will sclang/scsynth be using.

say, it will link with a pack and be launched and really use a difft one.
/etc/libconfig and the like do play tricks, you know the order there
is relevant.
