Re: [sc-users] ANN: RedInfo ugens

3.3's beta is really quite stable... RC is coming soon.

Best,

Josh

Ok, it is in 3.3. Guess I should get over bug phobia and switch soon... :)

Oh you're a sweetypie! They work for me now (not the lmu actually, but
the others are cool enough). Thanks f

hi, thanks for the feedback.

apple changed the direction it seems and the library i use (UniMotion
0.4.1
(http://unimotion.sourceforge.net/) by Lincoln Ramsay) probably isn't up
to
date with those changes. i will not try to keep up with apple. so the ugens will not be xyz direction safe on all portable models. sorry.
 you'll
need to make it an option for the end user (possibly as a part of your
calibration code?).

anyway, i've uploaded a new version (same place).
the new version includes RedInfoSms2 and RedInfoSms3 ugens. these
output
the integer raw data.
the new version should also run on 10.4.

Hello Fredrik

Excellent work! Now my daughter is running around with my laptop
shaking
it
and I am feeling all shaky.

But I noticed that on my laptop, if you tilt it to the left, the balls
go
upwards
to the right. As if there is an inverted motion sensor in these new
computers???

Do you think your UGen should consider this for portable code?

hi dan,
uhu, sorry for wasting your time. yes, 10.5 required for now. i
might
look into 10.4 support if there are requests.
and even though the ugens might run on non-portable machines, there's
not
much point as there's no battery nor accelerometer (i believe -
besides
desktops are too heavy to play around with for longer periods of time
- and
no, i'm not responsible if you accidently drop your computer while
using
these).

the ugens themselves are nothing special. so you won't miss out on
much.

here's a remake of cyrille henry's classic bouncing balls...

Only works on newer portable Mac models running OS 10.5 or newer.
:(

I didn't spot that until I tried to run them. I just have to assume
that these ugens are v cool

hello,
i just wrote 3 simple sc ugens for mac osX.5 users.

http://www.fredrikolofsson.com/software/RedInfo.zip

RedInfoBat - read the battery's current capacity (perhaps use it as
master
tuning instead of 440? laptops are also instruments :-)
RedInfoLmu - read data from the left and right side ambient light
sensors
(low-pass filter master effect to match venue's mood-light :-)
RedInfoSms - read data from the apple sudden motion sensor (very
sensitive
3d accelerometer. tap-tempo analysis while typing on the keyboard
:-)

hope they work. not extensively tested. please report any
problems.
enjoy,

_f
