Re: [sc-users] WiimoteLib

howdy. WiimoteLib uses almost exactly the same code that Darwiin uses, which seems to work for 99% of users. but the connection on the mac has always been a little flaky, and i dont know of any way to make it better. perhaps i will take a look at recent DarwiinOSC and see if there are any improvements. but there is really only one way to connect, and it is flaky at best.

if you have the chance, try a different controller. i have always wondered if certain controllers have a rough time with the mac or something. all the controllers i have tried (just 2), have worked, but not always the first time. has your controller been mated up with an actual wii console?

you can also try removing the wiimote from the bluetooth devices if it shows up there. for some people that seems to work.

and yes, the sequence for connecting is to press 1+2, and when all the wiimote leds are flashing, execute Wiimote.start(s). you know when it works if the leds start having a side to side moving pattern, like a cylon.

i have plans to merge my code with the wiimote stuff already in SC, but with a full time job, finishing a dissertation, and a new baby boy, my priorities arent there yet. :)

I just gave the restart a shot now, but it's the same story. Maybe
I'll try this on a different computer as a reality check. But it's
very strange because I've been working reliably with SC code that
relies on Wii data via DarwiinOSC for a couple months now. So
communication between this laptop and the Wii remote is clearly not an
issue. My motivation for looking into WiimoteLib is to get access to
the control data directly in UGens instead of passing it from the
lang.

If anyone else has any suggestions, let me know...

Thanks for the response Tim. Truly strange. I definitely don't see
that. The remote just flashes all LEDs simultaneously in the way
that's usual when it's trying to connect. It never strobes.

So - let me get this straight. You literally just press 1&2 on the
remote and execute

Wiimote.start(s);

and you see this strobe pattern once it connects? No other pre- or
post-steps required? Does this process automatically generate a
profile for the Wii remote in your bluetooth preferences if you don't
have one?

I got my copy of WiimoteLib from
http://petemoss.org/SuperCollider/index.html. Is that the most recent
as far as you know? It's baffling to keep hearing that this seems to
work for everyone. I've even tried the most recent 3.3 binary instead
of my own build, but it's just not happening. This has to be
something simple...

I'm using my own recent build of 3.3 on a 2.2Ghz, MBP with OSX 10.5.6.
WiimoteLib works fine for me using the examples in the help file. When a
Wii Remote is connected via WiimoteLib, the LEDs strobe back and forth,
flashing 1,2,3,4,3,2... etc. Is that what you are seeing?
