same happed on my machine after upgrading the os to 10.5, you have to delete the old libsndfile in /usr/local/lib/ , the universal binary libsnd file ist included now in the distro

Well, a "non-dynamic" universal version of libsndfile is included in the distro since several months. There was no conflict building scsynth using this while there was an other install of libsndfile in /usr/local/lib, until now (10.5).

I'm reluctant to delete the install in /usr/local/lib because occasionally I was glad to have sndfile-info ...

And, yes,

/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/local/lib/

is a link, not a copy.

The same (or very similar) build error here on dual G5.
Isn't this "usr/local/" inside of "Developer" something new? And/ or a "libsndfile" within it?
