What exactly does it mean when I send an OSC bundle and 'late

when I send -1 for the timestamp? My timing sounds perfect, so how
does scsynth handle a late timestamp?

if it's late when it hits the server it just processes the message as fast as it can. if your messages are only a few ms late then you probably won't notice the timing. the internal server has less latency than local.
