I wanted to bump this thread as there's been some discussion of the
firebox over on osxaudio lately.

http://www.bigbluelounge.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19750

The short version is that more than a few people using OSX class
compliant FireWire audio devices (like FA-101 and Presonus) are
reporting a scary CPU cost just having the device plugged in,
sometimes as much as 20% in the kernel_task -- this, mind you, without
any programs actually using the device. Nobody has heard any such
reports about other devices like MOTU or RME that ship their own
drivers.

I was looking into the firebox because I'd really like to have an
interface that's easier to travel with than my trusty 828mkII, but
this really gives me pause. Especially since the common factor seems
to be CoreAudio... is Apple able to reproduce the problem? (I ask that
knowing full well that the only person on the list who could possibly
answer it would not be allowed to...)

Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for some encouragement... if nothing
else, I can order it and just make sure I can return it if it's no
good. :)
