I use MBox - same driver.  i just launch the little bugger and change the rate in there before I start SC.  works fine.  sort of.
curious tho, what's the lowest buffer size you can have on the 002?  MBox only goes down to 512 which is nothing short of offensive!
on ProTools under OS/9 you can set it at 256 with the same hardware...
