Re: [sc-users] [ot] new 24-bit wav file format

<x-tad-bigger>hi tom-
</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>I know nothing about how to check whether this .wav file is malformed, but I did try to open it in a variety of programs. Steinberg Wavelab, Audacity, and Goldwave all open it without any issues. They report it to be a 24bit 44.1kHz Stereo file. Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro 1.2 fails. I generally find that Audacity will open just about anything, and it's free...</x-tad-bigger>

opening the file is only half the issue. quicktime will open the file. the example file, a second of ambient noise recorded with the built-in mic, is not great for exhibiting the deeper problem, which is a kind of lo-bit garbage that increases as the complexity of the sound increases. this happens in audacity and soundhack, as well. the recording unit plays the files just fine, however.

i should also point out that this is a problem recognized by marantz, and not just a personal issue. good luck finding anything about it in their documentation, though...

probably should take this topic off-list unless some sc revelations are born from it. i welcome any emails about it.
