thanks for offering to help with this. i put a small example file on
my site at http://bhobrainey.net/1015.WAV for anyone who feels like
looking at it.
I know nothing about how to check whether this .wav file is malformed,
but I did try to open it in a variety of programs. Steinberg Wavelab,
Audacity, and Goldwave all open it without any issues. They report it to
be a 24bit 44.1kHz Stereo file. Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro 1.2 fails. I
generally find that Audacity will open just about anything, and it's free...
