[sc-users] [ot] new 24-bit wav file format

i bought a marantz pmd671 compact flash recorder that records up to 24-bit 96khz .wav files. as it turns out, marantz employed the 'latest microsoft .wav standard' (marantz tech support), which, in 24-bit files, isn't supported by any software on the mac and very little on the pc. in some cases, it's not recognized as an audio file at all, in others, as in sc (via libsndfile, i'm guessing), it's played back as if it were 8-bit.

marantz told me back in may that they were working on a downloadable file that will make the machine revert to the 'old' 24-bit wav format. that was supposed to be ready within a week, but last time i spoke to them, the fix was not forthcoming, and it looked like they were going to be asking users to send their machines back to marantz if they wanted them changed (provided they come up with something that works).

does anyone know anything about this new .wav format and if there are any mac/unix utilities that will play and convert it? i haven't found anything.

thanks,
