Actually, I looked more closely and the error is something else

m.playfx.at(...) is incorrect syntax. It should be
m.playfx(Instr.at([\busfx, \companderd]), [0, 1]) -- the .at applies
only to Instr, not playfx.

What's happening is that you're telling it to play "nil" as an effect,
which logically would not be understood.
