[sc-users] "DSP Off-summer School 2003"
DSP Summer School presents
"DSP Off-summer School 2003"
A sound and art exhibition "Robotic Music and Max/MSP/Jitter"
Best wishes for the New Year !
DSP Summer School offers workshops, lectures, and public presentations
demonstrating the application of Max/MSP/Jitter in a concert and sound
installation environment. The 5th DSP Off-summer School will be held in
the spring of 2003, in place of the regular summer
course.
In past years, the summer school has focused on software applications for
such things as: sound synthesis, video processing and algorithmic
composition. The intention, this year, is to concentrate on new uses of
hardware. Max/MSP/Jitter will be used in conjunction with a robotics
system. During the workshop, a robot will be assembled using a Robot Kit.
As an exercise, participants will be given models to build in order to
extend their understanding of both, programming in Max/MSP and the
functionality of robotics systems.
Presentations by prominent researchers and developers will be given, in
particular with a focus on musical application. The participant's robot
designs and their programming with Max/MSP will be shown in public on the
final day. There will also be a concert featuring our own unique robot
design on the last day. Our new robot design is currently under
development.

Important note:
We are only accepting applications for the DSP Off-summer School 2003 that
arrive on or after January 15, 2003.

DSP Off-summer School invites you to send a detailed proposal of your
presentation. In particular, we are interested in receiving proposals that
incorporate robots; robot kits; LEGO (MindStorm); music
machines; sound installations; original artistic works with humanoid
robots.
We are looking for subjects which are related to robots and
Max/MSP/Jitter and that demonstrate the application of robotics technology
in the field of music. In addition, we invite participants to give
examples of their work, including patches developed uniquely for managing
image and sound through digital signal processing,
original objects and VST plug-in, etc..
