the OSX/OS9/Classic mode issue  (i'm new to Macs as well)

yes you can also .write files to disk, but ASIO does not work in 
classic mode.

specifically you mean classic mode os 9.
normal boot into os 9, vx pocket works fine using os 9 drivers.
vx pocket works fine using os x drivers in os x.

vx pocket ASIO will not work in classic mode.  you can stop trying now.
there is nothing you can do.
boot into os 9 when you want to use sc2.
