eventually the internal server will be able to do scope view, and do 
faster work with buffers.
right now, there isn't much diff.
internal server fails to post file not found notifications.
not sure what else.
i use local all the time.
if the server crashes, your client app is still running.
in practice though, the client is less stable than the server.
