no, of course not.  backwards compatible extensions to scsynth are
never a problem.

i appreciate that maintaining the existing rules can make implementing
new ones more difficult, but i think in this case it is worth the
effort.

the scsynth architecture has proven to be remarkably adaptable and
flexible and powerful and simple and elegant, i don't think we should
re-write it lightly.
