Well, the tutorials have always been a funny area of the doc. With  

the exception of JMC's original there hasn't been an 'official' one,  

just various ones contributed, which means there definitely is  

overlap already. However...

I've just checked this in. If you spot any mistakes or feel like anything is unclear, go ahead and edit it -- no need to ask me. I'm not attached to it as "my" text. I just want it to be as helpful to new users as possible.
