(Ok, this is dumb) Can't we change the extension? E.g.
On win, you have always the default association with M$ Word. On Mac, randomly TextEdit comes up (e.g. all the rtfs in my SC/examples folder. Why?) . More, in this way one is pretty sure s/he is working with SC documents. This should not break anything (it's just the file extension name). Best -a-
