The idea of a Mac installer bundle I think is fine, and doesn't add
any new cross-platform issues IMO.
For Linux, putting quarks in weird subdirectories of /usr/share (or
whatever) can be handled by the debian package *if* quarks become part
of the standard distro. So on Mac, an installer bundle would do the
equivalent job. Even on windows there could be an InstallShield or
whatever they call it to do the same.
