yep, sounds like a good idea.  I always like getting lots of goodies when I download something.  it also allows people to put in substantially more useful stuff without bloating the core sc.

the thing to watch out for is when someone has both a distro copy and an svn copy.  so Quark should treat the distro quark folder differently than the svn checked out quarks folder.

know'm'sayin ?

we should get the curl / url fetch going for ugens.  these could/should be included in the pre-loaded quarks.  so you would find lots of extra ugens easily installable without any other fiddling.

the only issue is size.  eventually (but not yet) we will want to filter the quarks that go with the binaries.  I had thought of distributing datasets and music via quarks.  not that that is going to end up high on my to do list very soon.

I guess the symlinks created by installing quarks could point to a location inside the build folder structure, while the symlinks themselves would exist in the extensions directory.

right, that would work.
as long as it can also support having quarks in two local locations.
/build
and
/{extensions}/quarks
