Re: [sc-dev] SC3e - SuperCollider embedded

Chris,

When cylob mentioned a similar idea a while ago, someone pointed out
that iPods etc don't have an FPU, so (AFAIK) it would be a massive
rewrite to get a fixed-point version of SC. In fact, that 'PDA' site
basically says they rewrote PD from scratch in fixed-point. If you're
willing to do that for SC I'll buy you many drinks!

Hi there,

I am currently thinking about starting a project to port
SuperCollider server to embedded Linux systems. This would allow us
to run SuperCollider on devices like palms, ipaqs or the iPod. The
linux kernel available on such devices is uCLinux (http://
www.uclinux.org/) and provides pretty much the same things as a
standard kernel, just for microcontrollers (network, oss...). My
first target would be the iPod (ARM CPU). There is a similar project
for PD (http://gige.xdv.org/pda/).

I haven't checked the feasibility of it and I am not sure if it is
worth the effort, but I wanted to know if there is anybody out there
who would also be interested in that and would be willing to help.

Chris
