I vote for switching to Subversion as soon as possible, from my experience SVN is a lot easier, more powerful and also safer than CVS. I particularly like the fact that you can move files easily and directories are version controlled in the same way as files are.

There are also quite nice clients for svn:
http://scplugin.tigris.org/ - OS X finder integration
http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ - Windows Explorer integration

or of course you could also just use the svn command from the shell, which works very much the same way as cvs.

I think it would be pretty safe to switch as sourceforge made an extensive beta-test with their subversion and everything looks stable.
