do I need XCode2/Tiger to compile with the new project files? or will XCode 1.5 do?

You need XCode 2.0 or higher. I don't know if you need Tiger.

OR you can add the new files to the old projects (both lang and synth):

SC_StandAloneInfo_Darwin.h goes in headers/common
SC_StandAloneInfo_Darwin.cpp goes in source/common

That should be all that's necessary.
