Re: [sc-dev] idle scsynth CPU usage

Following the Shark tree, this process is inside the mach_kernal shandler thread. Sounds pretty system oriented... but why would it show up that way on one Powerbook and not the other (when both are running the same system)?

I also noticed in the Shark output that the function 'equalizer' is highlighted in all of the them... this seems to be the CPU hog. Can't find it anywhere though with a quick spotlight search... I'll hunt around some more.

keylargo is the internal sound chip controller on the other alu- powerbook.. oh wait, maybe it's not. i think "snapper" is the chip. i'm trying to remember from configs for when i installed gentoo on a powerbook. the device is Texas Instruments TAS3004.

i was wondering if it's the same chip and controller, but now i'm gonna have to do more research to figure out what to compare it to!

by different driver i mean something other than the internal one, like a digidesign or indigoIO or something?

This is using all the internal defaults...

How do I change the driver? And where would I see if it is KeyLargo?

I ran Shark, and the difference came in the scsynth process, under the thread CAPThread. On the old machine, this was running at about 1%, on the new one, about 8%

Most of this seems to be involving the com.apple.driver.AppleDBDMAAudio and the com.apple.iokit.IOAudioFamily libraries.

i'm curious, is there an idle process difference also when using a different coreaudio driver? or is it only the Apple built-in? (is that still KeyLargo on these machines?)
