-Although i don't have a machine running any of the versions of OS X,
 I know that threading has changed along the years.
 The increase of cpu-load might hint at that.
 Basically (if this supposition is right in the first place...).
 this would mean that you're paying a price for a higher stability
 (meaning: fewer crashes, and hopefully lesser lock-ups and/or freezes...):
 a higher cpu usage.

Progress is inevitable (and the emptying of your wallet along the process).
