Thanks everyone... I finally figured it out from what James sent (I
think).
This is a new PB (one of the new ones since October). The pmset
didn't quite do anything, but I followed down to the bottom of the
second article where setting the Energy Saver to highest
performance is mentioned again. I tried that again, and the spikes
and glitches disappeared...
HOWEVER, the second any change is made (which changes the setting
to "Custom") everything goes out the window. I had originally set
the computer to highest performance, then turned off the option to
let the hard disk spin down. This changed my setting to Custom, and
automatically back to the variable CPU speed. Unfortunately, there
is no way to set the CPU to the highest speed with any custom
settings (at least from what I can tell).
This definitely solves the immediate problem... though quite
irksome, that's for sure.
Thanks James, kernel and x for the assist!
Josh

I just got one of the new PB 1.67GHz machines, and there is a

You got me real curious, so I did some poking around in the apple

Maybe some help? Or is there a new pb revision that came out since
then?
