i guess it would be a good idea to tag cvs from time to time when a
revision is considered to be stable. users could check out the last
stable revision or adhere to the latest cutting edge.

on the other hand it places a burden on james and other developers to
determine _when_ a new release should be made; i'm quite in favour of
how things work currently: when a bug is fixed, you have the fix in
your local copy asap (apart from sourceforge synchronicity issues).

i can only speak for linux, of course.

synth: improve scheduler timing, vectorize for intel (?), ...
 lang: big/little endian file primitives, jack transport client
       support, ladcca session management support (?), midi, gui,
       usb or least joystick support, DOCUMENTATION, ...
