if you're transporting over the net to other platforms surely those
platforms can read .sc files too. am I missing something?
Here's at least one reason. If you open the file in Text Edit, it will not
let you save it as anything other than a .rtf file. thus it would be
impossible to edit and save the file with the same name in Text Edit (and
probably other editors) on osx other than SC. OSX wants to enforce that a
file's format matches it's extension.
Not using .rtf would be going against the flow on OSX and cause trouble in
the long run.
